The Film Independent Spirit Award nominations have been announced and we are thrilled to see three of Dogwoof's films included in the nominees. Best of Enemies, The Look of Silence, and Heart of Dog all picked up a nomination in the Best Documentary category. The winners will be announced Saturday February 27th. You can see the full list of nominations here.
The Look of Silence - now available on DVD and on demand
Through Joshua Oppenheimer’s work filming perpetrators of the Indonesian genocide, a family of survivors discovers how their son was murdered and the identity of the men who killed him. The youngest brother is determined to break the spell of silence and fear under which the survivors live, and so confronts the men responsible for his brother’s murder – something unimaginable in a country where killers remain in power.
Best of Enemies - now available on DVD and on demand
Best of Enemies is a behind-the-scenes account of the explosive televised debates between the liberal Gore Vidal and the conservative William F. Buckley Jr., during the 1968 Democratic and Republican national conventions. Live and unscripted, they kept viewers riveted with their rancorous disagreements about politics, God, and sex. Ratings for ABC News sky-rocketed; and a new era in public discourse was born.
Heart of Dog - coming to cinemas in 2016
Cantering on Laurie Anderson’s beloved rat terrier Lolabelle, who died in 2011, Heart of Dog is a personal essay that weaves together childhood memories, video diaries, philosophical musings on data collection, surveillance culture and the Buddhist conception of the afterlife, and heartfelt tributes to the artists, writers, musicians and thinkers who inspire her.
Huge congratulations to all of the nominees!
